AOM-0101 — Uniform Application of 7 ICAO Airspace Classes at FL195 and below

Uniform application of the rules associated with the 7 ICAO airspace classes at or below FL 195.

Rationale: Ensure common adoption and uniform application of airspace classes in the EU and ECAA States. Airspace classification should be appropriate to the traffic operating in the airspace. Move towards a continuum of airspace not constrained by national boundaries, making the transition from the airspace of one State to that of another transparent to the flight-crew, together with a reduction in the complexity of associated operational procedures. Simplification may also be realised through the definition and use of a common transition altitude. The expected benefit are: increased safety, increased efficiency in terms of quality of service provided and facilitated cross-border co-operation, enhanced through the use of common criteria for the same types of airspace.
