AOM-0608 — Enhanced Parallel Approach Operations using PBN/RNP transitions to RNP (for at least one runway)
Parallel Approach operations are enhanced through the application of PBN/RNP navigation specifications e.g. RNP AR APCH. At least one runway is using a PBN/RNP to RNP transition. This enables safer, more cost effective solutions to the implementation of independent mode operations.
- Rationale
- The use of PBN/RNP transitions to RNP final segments in parallel approach operations, in environments where fleet equipage / mixed fleet operations allow it, will provide alternative options for implementation of Independent Parallel Approaches (IPA). It will also offer potential additional improvements in safety, capacity and environmental impact. In high density environments, dedicated procedures in the initial approach will guarantee an effective use of PBN under high traffic peaks. In medium/low density environments, flight efficiency and environmental benefits may be easier to maximise.
