IS-0402 — Extended provision of Terminal Information using datalink

Current meteorological and operational flight information derived from ATIS, METAR and NOTAMs/SNOWTAMs, specifically relevant to the departure, approach and landing flight phases is transmitted to pilots by datalink. The flight crew has real-time access to the relevant airport operational parameters applicable to the most critical phases of flight (ATIS, METAR and OFIS).

Rationale
The main objective is to provide pilots with easy access to the widest possible range of information to support the decision making process whilst reducing cockpit workload and enhancing safety.
Means of provision of information to all airspace users (pilots), including GA, needs to be determined.
Potentially from 2013: exchange of MET data (2x4 levels for wind in en-route and 2x5 levels for wind in approach) and information data (D-OTIS: ATIS,METAR,NOTAM) with ATC (both via ATN).
WP6.2: 6.7.2 is only considering the provision of routing information by datalink. Its contribution to this OI is marginal.
