AOM-0604 — Enhanced terminal operations with LPV using SBAS
SBAS supports RNP Approaches to LPV minima which can be as low as 200ft, equivalent to ILS Cat I. These can provide a back-up for precision approaches at airfields equipped with ILS or a replacement for conventional non-precision approaches.
- Rationale
- At airports where only NPA is currently feasible, implementation of LPV approaches will provide improvements in terms of safety and airport accessibility. At airports with ILS the LPV approaches will allow a reasonable capacity to be maintained even in the case of an ILS outage.
